Human Security Network Panel Discussion on Human Trafficking was held in Vienna on 17 October 2005 as a side event of the Second Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organised Crime. The event was an initiative of the Thai Chair, under the co-sponsorship of HSN countries and in cooperation with the UNODC.
Human Security Network workshop on HIV/AIDS took place in Geneva on
25 July 2005. The Workshop was attended by representatives from HSN
countries, UNAIDS, WHO, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and
Malaria (GFATM) Thailand-Africa Workshop on Comprehensive Responses to HIV/AIDS Prevention
and Care took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 22 to 24 June 2005. The
Workshop was jointly organized by the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP). Representatives from 10 African countries, potential
partners and donor countries, the UN agencies concerned, and non-governmental
organizations attended the Workshop. The Ottawa Convention's First Review Conference, the "Nairobi Summit on
a Mine-Free World", took place in UN facilities from 29 November to 3 December
2004 in Kenya. The 15th International AIDS Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 11-16 July 2004 under the theme "Access for All".
The Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network took place 27-29 May 2004 in Bamako, Mali.
The Bamako meeting, organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue on the margins of the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the HSN, inaugurated the second phase of the 'Putting People First' dialogue series with a focus on the issue of weapons transfers to non-state armed groups.
The 28th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent was held in Geneva, December 2-6 2003 with a main theme "Protecting Human Dignity". The Human Security Network held two workshops, respectively on children in armed conflict and the humanitarian aspects of small arms proliferation.
The Meeting of the "Human Rights Cities" for the official release of the HSN Manual "Understanding Human Rights" took place at the African Learning Institute for Human Rights Education (INAFAEDH/ALIHRE) in Bamako, Mali, November 18-20 2003. "The Fifth Assembly of State Parties on the Ottawa Convention on Anti-Personnel Mines was held in Bangkok, Thailand, September 15-19 2003".
The First biennial Meeting to Consider the Implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons took place in New York 7-11 July. For more details The publication, "Putting People First: Human Security Perspectives on Small Arms Availability and Misuse", undertaken by the Centre for Humitarian Dialogue (HDC), with the support of the governments of Canada, Mali, Switzerland has been released in July 2003. It includes contributions from some Network states, UN, and NGO representatives identifying action on three fronts essential from a human security perspective: regulating supply, reducing demand, and ending misuse.
An outcome document called Understanding Human Rights: Manual on Human Rights Education was released by the Austrian Presidency of the Human Security Network on May 9th. This manual is meant to assist Human Rights Education efforts and is destined for global use through a culture-sensitive perspective based on the universality of human rights.
The Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network took place 8-10 May 2003 in Graz, Austria.
An international charity concert for survivors of landmines, in particular children, has been organized by the Austrian Chair of the HSN, under the auspices of Foreign Minister Ferrero-Waldner. Worldwide known soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter (Violin) will perform in Vienna on 4 May 2003.
Workshop on "Children and Armed Conflict", organized by Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research on 8 November 2002, supported by HSN.
Meetings on "Human Security and Small Arms - Options for Action" on 8 November 2002 and 27 March 2003, organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva, part of larger initiative which seeks to collect data and perspectives from a range of actors in order to further formulate an agenda aimed at combatting the impact of the proliferation and misuse of small arms on the safety of people and their livelihoods.
Human Security Policy Workshop in Santiago, Chile on 13-14 May 2002, organized by the Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR) and hosted by the Latin American Faculty on Social Studies (FLACSO-Chile) with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile in its capacity as Chair of the Human Security Network 2001-2002. A summary of some of the findings of this meeting appear in an annex to the Chairman's Summary of the 2002 Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network.
